CHRIS WATKINS
Director, Baukultur
An exploration of the origins and evolution of a state-significant hotel design.
During a career spanning over 30 years, Chris has distilled his core principles down to two key elements. First and foremost, relationships – be it clients, colleagues, or partners, Chris understands that relationships should be nurtured and respected. In doing this he develops a level of trust that enables him and the people he is working with to share thoughts and develop concepts without inhibition.
The second is creative flow. Finding the sweet spot where energy and excitement builds around an idea, thought or action. When one idea sparks another, one movement prompts the next.
Central to all of this is critical thinking. The ability to work without ego and make clear decisions ensures he, and the teams he works with, are continuously working in the best interests of the project.
Chris subscribes to a ‘generalist’ approach to design and his broad range of projects enables him to combine experience from various sectors to create new and transformative spaces that continue to adapt to the needs of their users long into the future.
Chris continues to demonstrate that as an architect, there is always the opportunity to learn, to create and to enrich people’s lives through design.
